What IS The Court Clinic?

The First Judicial District Court Clinic was established through a grant from the Administrative Office of the Courts as a support system to the Judges who struggle with their decision-making process involving high conflict divorcing or re-litigating families.  The Judges find themselves in a position of uncertainty about the residential placement of these families’ children because of the level of parental conflict.  In their effort to make a decision that is in the “best interest of the children”, they sometimes need more information about these families. The Court Clinic serves as a referral service to the judges in an effort to identify those issues that are getting in the way of the parents’ ability to agree on a residential arrangement.  The Clinic staff typically interviews the couple who have been referred and helps them to clarify the issues that are interfering with their ability to agree on a plan for their children.
